Jinny at Finmory: For Love of a Horse

by Patricia Leitch

The Jinny at Finmory books were first published in the 1970s and were enormously popular. They have been out of print for many years – to the consternation of Leitch’s many fans.

When Jinny Manders moves to the wilds of Finmory in the Scottish Highlands she has only one dream: a pony of her own. That’s until a near-wild chestnut Arab steals her heart. But it seems the mare will never trust her, even though Jinny would risk everything to save the horse she loves.

Jinny is not the typical pony book heroine – she is a scruffy, wilful, tomboyish girl who doesn’t have any social or romantic aspirations. Co-star of the books is her beautiful, wild, Arab pony Shantih. Serious social justice issues are raised throughout the series, forcing Jinny to confront her prejudices and character faults.
